“Oakwood unveils, dedicates Michigan’s first artistic organ donor memorial wall”

“More than three years after announcing plans to pay tribute to those who have helped save lives through their generosity in death, Oakwood officials unveiled Michigan’s first organ and tissue donor memorial wall—A New Dawn—at the Oakwood Hospital-Dearborn…

The wall is considered a work of art featuring individual glass doves that are enshrined in lighted glass, subtly expressing the spirit of the dove in an elegant, calming and spiritual manner. The family of each organ donor will receive a matching dove engraved with their loved one’s name, at a special ceremony. The memorial wall is a surrounding space roughly 16 feet wide, designed to embrace visitors with information, pictures and stories of past donors, while encouraging participation in organ and tissue donation in English, Spanish and Arabic.”    Read the entire article here…

A Place To Find Comfort & Healing

“Our primary goal with this project was to designate a place within Oakwood that would honor organ and tissue donors and give donor families a place to find comfort and healing. We searched our state for an artist who would capture the essence this memorial would hold.

All paths brought us to Tony. He has created a profound piece of artwork that will touch all those who see it.

The kiosk will educate and pay tribute, and the doves, dedicated to organ donors will give peace. The memorial will also honor eye and tissue donors who give sight and enhance the lives of hundreds each day.

Thank you to all who assisted in any way to bring this memorial to reality.”

Tranquility At The Dawn Calms Our Human Nature

“My goal as an artist has evolved, creating objects that invite my audience to explore the depth and meaning of life. I’ll use any medium to stimulate taste, touch, sound, sight and spirit which are the tools and targets of all my multimedia works.

This medium art form is meant to be a guide, inviting all to explore and discover the nature of what a precious and complex gift life is.

The tranquility at the dawn calms our human nature, whispering its promise just before first light. The very music, clatter and the ticking of so many clocks, life’s sounds, to which we all contribute, awakens and begins again.

This piece pays tribute to those who have quietly handed over a piece of their life to save another’s, offering, like the dawn, a new promise.

You are simply asked by this artist to imagine, gently cradling a dove in your hands and ponder quietly the stories, the gifts and the meaning of ‘DAWN’.”
